Just One Fix
if you've ever been a fan of Ministry or have seen them live you'll dig this...... I saw them in Denver on the Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and they were bloody brilliant. They even included a song recorded live in Denver from that show on the live album "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up"

Thinking about Dio
RONNIE JAMES DIO Diagnosed With Stomach Cancer
Wendy Dio, the wife and manager of legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.
"Long live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio.
"Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up."
Ronnie James Dio, 67, has performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He is currently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also includes former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.
DIO cancelled its European tour last week after Ronnie was taken ill. The band's lineup for the trek was supposed to include WHITESNAKE/ex-DIO axeman Doug Aldrich due to the fact that the group's regular guitarist, Craig Goldy, had prior touring commitments with BUDGIE in Australia.

Drawing is Thinking
Milton Glaser draws and lectures on why drawing is essential in order to see the world. One of my favorite things to do, especially at the end of the day with a beverage and a record and KT. Me? I love the ballpoint pen, black Papermate. OK, that was a little personal. ;)

the latest Numbers on Vinyls Growing Popularity
The resurgent vinyl market isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, recent figures released by Nielsen SoundScan indicate that overall U.S. vinyl sales will once again set a benchmark in 2009, with sales up 50% through the first five months of the year. SoundScan predicts vinyl sales will reach 2.8 million units in 2009, up from 1.9 million in 2008, a record since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991. Already in 2009, vinyl sales have topped 1 million. Rock albums account for 70% of all vinyl sold, but country vinyl is enjoying a growth spurt. Year-to-date country vinyl sales are already at 15,000 copies, compared with 5,000 for the comparable period in 2008.

A Sobering Read About the State of Things in the USA
Great read from Peggy Noonan at the WSJ FTA - "This is something new in modern political history, and I'm not sure we're fully noticing it. Americans are starting to think the problems we are facing cannot be solved.
Part of the reason is that the problems—debt, spending, war—seem too big. But a larger part is that our government, from the White House through Congress and so many state and local governments, seems to be demonstrating every day that they cannot make things better. They are not offering a new path, they are only offering old paths—spend more, regulate more, tax more in an attempt to make us more healthy locally and nationally. And in the long term everyone—well, not those in government, but most everyone else—seems to know that won't work. It's not a way out. It's not a path through."

the Coming Death of Cable TV
seriously.....who has cable? you know there's an internet out there? and HD signals blowing through the air.....and get this, for free!!! FTA: "Apple is pitching a monthly subscription service to the TV networks, an iTunes-based alternative to cable packages that would cost about $30 per month. Apple wants to launch the service early next year, provided it can get broadcast and cable TV programmers to sign up, Kafka reports."

SLAYER Reveal Album Art for World Painted Blood
Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s highly-anticipated new album set for a November 3 release (American Recordings), will initially ship with four special collector’s edition CD covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world (see above).
All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it.
The World Painted Blood Deluxe Edition will have its own special layout of the map cover art and will be in a double-digipak housed in a blood-red, see-through plastic sleeve. The Deluxe Edition will include the World Painted Blood CD, the “Playing With Dolls” DVD, a 20-minute animated graphic novel featuring music from the album (including part of a new non-album song), and an expanded booklet.

Unknown Pleasures
When it came to punk rock, designers set out to demystify the process and unhinge the obvious connections with advertising and consumerism. It wasn't the same then. Privatisation had yet to kill off the idea of public service, and pop video was still a nascent form. Great punk sleeves such as the Sex Pistols' Holidays in the Sun were totemic, because here was a critical and independent voice, Jamie Reid, talking about mindless consumerism in the best journalistic tradition of art and mass-media culture while still achieving good packaging. An in depth heady study of Peter Saville's graphic masterpiece.
