The Lambretta Li 150 Series 3 offered here is the actual machine ridden by Phil Daniels’ character, James 'Jimmy'' Cooper in the 1979 film, 'Quadrophenia', inspired by The Who’s double album of the same name. After filming finished, the 'Jimmy Bike' was sold to scooter dealers Rafferty Newman and put on display in the window of their shop in Portsmouth. It was subsequently purchased by Eddie Harris who then sold it on to Paul Marsh, both these owners being Portsmouth residents. So rad.

When he couldn’t recreate the distorted sound of his live version in a studio, Wray poked holes in his amp speakers, cranked up the tremolo, and was then able to capture what he wanted in three takes -- for a cost of $57. Originally titled "Oddball," it was renamed after the gang fights in "West Side Story" by a record producer’s daughter. Wray’s primal guitar influenced a generation of rockers including Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, the Kinks, Jimmy Page and Neil Young. Bob Dylan called "Rumble" the "greatest instrumental ever." Pete Townshend said, "... if it hadn’t been for Link Wray and ‘Rumble,’ I would have never picked up a guitar."

Shell dumps hydro, wind, and solar

Shell will no longer invest in renewable technologies such as wind, solar and hydro power because they are not economic, the Anglo-Dutch oil company said today. It plans to invest more in biofuels..... pretty interesting stuff. Despite Al Gore's propaganda I predict we will see more of this. Alternative energy is just not cost effective, and when it comes down to it Americans are not going to double their electrical bills to run on solar or some other fantasy.

Although I wish records were getting cheaper, as they increase in popularity the price keeps going up too. Scored some goodies this past weekend Denver's legendary Wax Trax Records. Hard to believe I've been going there for 24 years.....

Alan Moore, who has refused to have his name on the movie (ditto its Moore-based predecessors, "V for Vendetta" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and who has declined all reimbursement to protest the entertainment industry's fundamental lack of respect for intellectual property, counts as a bona fide visionary. I disliked "V for Vendetta" despite loving the original comics series. I imagine the same reaction if I were to see Watchmen. Maybe NetFlix?

Paul's Boutique remastered

when someone asks what the album of MY GENERATION was/is I have two answers, the first is the Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique from 1989, the second is the Stone Roses first record from 1988. For me and my circle of people these albums are the stuff of legend. I was 19 when Paul's Boutique came out and I bought it the day it came out on vinyl in New Orleans. It's too easy to rave about it today, but in the time it was released it was more than epic. I haven't heard the remaster yet, but I'm betting they loudened it up a bit.
