great read about "noticing"
I really enjoyed this article
FTA:
"Super-noticing power really is a strong cultural idea. The enhanced human with awesome noticing and synthesizing powers crops up regularly in science fiction (e.g., the Mentats in the Dune series or the neurachem from Richard Morgan’s books)."

more proof that America likes crappy music
Britney Spears mic isolated caught this on 107.5 and had a laugh on the way in. It's her live show on HBO a while back, they've isolated her mic and cut all backing tracks and backing vocals. Ugh.

UKE Weeps
If I used the phrase "Off the Hook" I would use it to describe this sick, sick, sick, Harrison cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" played on a Ukelele.

the first American Tequila
5150 Tequila This guy is the first person to legally import blue agave into the US and he decided to apply wine making techniques to the tequila-making process, such as using wine barrels instead of old bourbon barrels. - Sounds interesting.
282 miles per gallon
VW working on gas conservation pretty cool for geeks like me who like oddball vehicles, but I can't imagine the general public buying these. And I think the airplane cockpit layout for passengers/drivers would be strange as well.

Prince Charles wrecks his Aston Martin
It now runs on bio-fuel
ah, I don't really post anything personal on here but allow me to rant a bit.
Who fucking cares, really? I know it's just for show from the guy at the top but c'mon. Why ruin the car? and how many miles does the "Prince" put on the car a year - 10-20 miles? Why not cut down on the amount of international travel he does if he's concerned for the environment? ohhhhhh that's right, he's not worried about the environment. Prince Charles go jump in the lake you sod.

Desperate Man Blues
Joe Bussard Documentary
Watched this from Netflix last night and it was excellent. It's great from a musical standpoint, from a historical standpoint and from a collector standpoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this and it clocks in at an hour with plenty of extra features if you'd like to learn/see more. From the description:
"Joe Bussard is preserving the raw music of the American South, including blues, hillbilly, bluegrass, gospel and jazz. In combing the region for masterpieces primarily from the 1920s and '30s, Bussard has amassed more than 25,000 records."

Orphan Artworks
considering a major reform of copyright law
FTA:
"CONGRESS is considering a major reform of copyright law intended to solve the problem of “orphan works” — those works whose owner cannot be found. This “reform” would be an amazingly onerous and inefficient change, which would unfairly and unnecessarily burden copyright holders with little return to the public."

Records may be the death nail of CD's
Ha ha ha ha hah hah ha hah ha ha
this is funny, although what it really means is that records are going to and are costing more money than ever. My last couple of trips to the record store have shown me that record prices have indeed been on the rise.....even used records cost more.

The drummer for the Dirtbombs also takes some great photos and if you're a White Stripes fan you'll recognize some of his shots.
portraits of SOHO record shops
Recording the disappearing record stores of SOHO
neat project and some nice shots, even though I'll never shop at these joints it still saddens me to know they are disappearing. Support your local shop. I think I'll dump some dough in Wax Trax this weekend.
